Sigma Phi Epsilon Helps Disabled Man Save His Home

In a year, the city of Clarksville has leveled more than 40 old buildings, issued countless citations and caught the attention of virtually every codes violation in the city.A year ago, the city started enforcing an ordinance that allows the city to threaten the sale of a house, occupied or not.The city's property maintenance ordinance is one of the few in the country that allows the city put liens on homes regardless of occupancy. The Clarksville Building and Codes Department prefers for people to abide by the law before losing their property, said director Jim Pillow.Pillow said volunteers are available to help landowners unable to bring their property up to code.Over the weekend, Landon Bevier and fellow members of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, helped a disabled man transform his property that was once very cluttered.

MS Walk

MS Walk April 3rd, 2004

For the second year in a row, the brothers of TN Eta have participated in the Clarksville MS Walk. In doing so, we are raising money and awareness on behalf of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, with the hope that one day the acronym MS will stand for Mystery Solved.

2003 Walk raises $13,000 to fight MS Fighting a disease

Jack Fitts pushes wife Bonnie Fitts' wheelchair during the Eighth Annual MS Walk Saturday. Mrs. Fitts has multiple sclerosis and was among the 200 people who took part in the walk that raises research money and awareness of multiple sclerosis.

Several Clarksvillians went on the offensive against multiple sclerosis Saturday by participating in the city's Eighth Annual MS Walk.

Participants raised pledges for the opportunity to walk three miles through downtown Clarksville, and, more importantly, fund research through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society."This is an annual fund-raiser, and it helps make people aware of multiple sclerosis," walk chairwoman Missy Wooten said. "Lots of times people come to support family members or friends with MS."The event raised almost $13,000, which pleases people such as Bonnie Fitts. "I appreciate it because I have MS," Fitts said. "It just really encourages me because hopefully, one day there will be a cure." Her daughter Ashley, who is a student at Austin Peay State University, sat next to her. Ashley brought several of her Chi Omega sorority sisters and friends in the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity to participate. "It means a lot that my friends came out and support my family," she said.

Anthony Aronowitz, admitted he didn't know much about MS before getting involved with the walk."This is for a good cause," he said. "It's been an educational experience."
