Awards for 2009-2010


APSU AWARDS

Most Spirited Organization Presented to the registered student organization that has best displayed spirit for its organization and the University.

President's Cup Presented to the social Greek organization from each council with the highest overall grade point average for the 2009 spring and fall semester.

The TN Eta Chapter was also recognized by APSU Student Affairs for Outstanding Alumni Relations and for dedicated Philanthropy through the Seuss of Schools Program.

Adviser of the Year is presented to a campus student organization volunteer adviser -- Mike Dunn -- who has gone above and beyond the requirements of the organization they advise.

Mr. Governor The Student Government Association (SGA) honored one graduating male -- Chris Drew -- for his outstanding service and achievement as an undergraduate student at Austin Peay State University.

Greek Man of the Year honors the overall top Greek male student leader -- Caleb Roberts -- who has made the most significant overall contribution to the Greek community and to the University during the year and his Greek career.

Vice President’s Excellence in Leadership Award recognizes a graduating senior student -- Caleb Roberts -- who has excelled scholastically, has a distinguished record of involvement on campus and has excelled in the area of student leadership on campus. This is the top individual student leader award.

Governor's Rising Leaders Awards were presented to freshman Joe Marler, sophomore Trent Gaasch, and junior Hykeem Craft for exhibiting exceptional leadership ability, contributions to campus life, university pride and showing potential for other leadership roles.

APSU AWARDS

Greek Organization of the Year: Presented to one fraternity or sorority that best represents the highest standards of excellence and exemplifies the finest overall record of scholarship, service, and leadership on the Austin Peay State University Campus. (SigEp has captured this award the past two years. No organization on campus has ever accomplished that task)

Governors Legacy Organization Award: Presented to an exceptional student organization for providing outstanding programs, leadership opportunities, service to campus and community and vision consistently over time. The organization must have been registered and active for a minimum of five consecutive years. (This is a new award judged mainly on what an organization has accomplished in its time on campus. SigEp competed with organizations that had over 60 years of involvement. Our chapter has been active on campus for 12 years)

President's Cup: Presented to one Greek organization from IFC, PC, and NPHC who has achieved the highest overall GPA from the 2007 spring and fall semesters. (SigEp has won this award 12 of the past 13 years)


Greek Man of the Year -- Bryan Huffman: This award is given to the most outstanding Greek male student leader who has made the most significant contribution to the Greek community and to the University during the year. (It is the only individual Greek award. SigEps have won this award 6 of the past 7 years)

Governors Rising Freshman -- Josh Taylor: This award is given to one rising freshman for exhibiting exceptional leadership ability, contribution to campus life, university pride and potential for other leadership roles.

Governors Rising Sophomore -- Caleb Roberts: This award is given to one rising sophomore for exhibiting exceptional leadership ability, contribution to campus life, university pride and potential for other leadership roles. (Caleb also won the Rising Freshman award in 2007)

Meningall Governors Cup Award -- Marc Bady: This award is presented to a graduating student who has been able to lead positive, observable and sustainable change on the campus of Austin Peay State University.

Mister Governor Award -- Bryan Huffman: The Mister Governor Award honors one graduating student who has contributed to the University community through leadership, diversity, and service and has demonstrated participation in a leadership role on campus while maintaining high academic standards.

Adviser of the Year -- Mike Dunn: Presented to one campus student organization adviser who has gone above and beyond the requirements for the organization he/she advises. (A Greek adviser had not won this award for the past 7 years. Mike also serves as our Faculty Fellow as our chapter is under consideration for RLC accreditation)

*Brothers Chris Drew (SGA President), Will Moore (Chief Justice), and Hykeem Craft (Secretary) were sworn in by Austin Peay President Tim Hall.
*Of the 4 SGA EC positions, SigEps have held the 3 of the 4 positions for the past three years.

APSU AWARDS

During the University’s recent Spring 2005 Commencement SigEps receive top honors. Brother John Beamer was named Mr. Governor. This prestigious award denotes Beamer's outstanding leadership, service and demonstration of respect for human differences. Read article by Dennie Burke <click here>

Brother Justin Roper also walked away with a top award. He was presented the Harvill-Civitan Award. The recipient of this award is selected on the basis of his or her contributions to outstanding citizenship. Sigma Phi Epsilon—Greek Organization of the Year: Presented to one fraternity or sorority that best represents the highest standards of excellence and exemplifies the finest overall record of scholarship, service, and leadership on the Austin Peay State University Campus.

Sigma Phi Epsilon—President’s Cup: Presented to a Greek organization from the IFC, NPHC, and NPC who has achieved the highest GPA during the academic year.

Sigma Phi Epsilon & Gamma Sigma Sigma “Stay Alive Suicide Rally”—Outstanding Program of the Year: Presented to the registered student organization which conceived, planned, and implemented a program that demonstrates collaboration, diversity, development, leadership, and relevance to important issues for college students.

Brother Michael Gaither—Vice President’s Excellence in Leadership Award: The Vice President’s Excellence in Leadership Award recognizes one senior who has excelled scholastically, has a distinguished record of involvement on campus, and has excelled in the area of student leadership on campus.

Brother Feras Sadik—Governors Pride Leadership Award: This award is presented to one male and one female senior or graduate student leader who has established a long term record of service and leadership in student organizations and campus activities.

Brother Justin Roper—Greek Man of the Year: This award is presented to the top overall Greek male student leader who has made the most significant overall contribution to the Greek community and to the University during the year and his Greek career.

Brother Feras Sadik—Distinguished Student Leader of the Year (Celebration and Promotion of Diversity): This award is given to a student who makes a positive impact on the university community through their leadership role and for their outstanding contribution to the celebration and promotion of diversity.

Brother John Beamer—Athlete Leader of the Year: This award is presented to one varsity athlete who has demonstrated successful balance between academic achievement, student organization or Greek involvement, and athletic involvement.

Brother Zach Pelham was recognized for his service as the outgoing Student Government Association President.

Brother Nick Pitts was sworn in as SGA Vice President, and Brother Feras Sadik was sworn in as SGA Chief Justice.
